Wind Dance Ranch-Our Guardians
Wind Dance Ranch
We have a lot of predators in our area and our guard
llamas, Rain and Thunder (quite handsome, don't you
think?) do a wonderful job of protecting our sheep.
They have a wonderful bond with the sheep and are
very watchful for anything out of the ordinary. It's
not unusual to see the lambs using the llamas as a
wind break or pillow while they nap in the afternoon
sun.
Meet Meg, our 2 year old Akbash livestock guardian.
Meg patrols the entire ranch and keeps all the animals
safe, but she has a special bond with our Angora Goats
so she spends most of her day with them. We rescued
Meg as a stray from a shelter in northern WY. Not
knowing anything about her past, we think she's had
some experience guarding livestock as she certainly
found herself easily fitting into her role as guardian.
Dollie LLama came to us as a very young llama
from a rescue situation. Dollie is perhaps the
sweetest, most loving and most easily handled
llama we have had. She lives with the goats
and makes sure they let her have her fair share
of hay and grain. (Her waistline has grown
significantly since arriving at the ranch 2 years
ago).
Grace is a wonderful girl and lives up to her name. She
came to us from a rescue situation. We were told that
she was pregnant but didn't know when she was bred.
10 months after arriving at the ranch she presented us
with a beautiful male cria that we named Jet. Grace
lives with the goats and is sweet and kind to them.
This is Jet. He has grown into a very friendly and gentle guy. He lives
with the alpacas and although he is larger than the alpacas he lives
with, he is very submissive toward them. We couldn't ask for a sweeter
